EU signs agreement to improve public financial management in Zambia

european unionThe European Union and the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) have signed a 20-million-euro agreement to enhance public financial management in Zambia as well as set up irrigation systems for smallholder farmers in the lower Kafue area, lusakatimes.com reports.

Zambia has advanced rapidly in promoting irrigation farming, according to European Union Ambassador to Zambia and COMESA Alessandro Mariani. This is especially why an effort to grow the sector is needed.

During the signing, Mr. Mariani said the management of public resources will help improve the processes for planning, budgeting and budget implementation. German Ambassador to Zambia, Achim Burkart, said that accountability and transparency in public financial management and natural resource management are necessary to deliver social services efficiently for all Zambians.
